Philharmonic
We will attend three Fort Wayne Philharmonic concerts
this month. The first is a Pops concert on Saturday, March 6,
featuring Peter Nero. " A two-time Grammy winner, with more
than 60 records to his credit, Peter Nero defines just what Pops
shows are all about. Over the past forty years, Peter Nero has
excelled as a classical piano wizard, film and television composer,
jazz pianist, and conductor. His unique appreciation for classical
and jazz traditions is unparalleled, and he creates masterful
interpretations of popular songs with a classical style."
Then, we will attend two masterworks concerts. The first is on
Saturday, March 13; Jean-Philippe Collard, pianist, will play
selections by composers Berlioz, Saint-Saens, and Ravel. The last
concert of the month is Saturday, March 20. This concert is simply
called "Carmen" - a semi-staged version of Bizet’s
classic opera of love and betrayal. Guest soloists will sing leading
roles with the Philharmonic Chorus and full orchestra. What a
great evening! Departure for all concerts is 7:15 pm.
Civic
We will attend the Civic performance of "Driving
Miss Daisy" Friday, March 19 at 7:17 pm. Winner of the 1998
Pulitzer Prize and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best off-Broadway
Play, this is a warm hearted study of the unlikely relationship
between an aging white Southern lady and a proud black man. The
place is the deep south, the time 1948. As the play ends, Hoke
has a final visit with Miss Daisy, now 97. It becomes clear they
have more in common than they ever believed possible.
